Prototype Projects Introduces Cutting-Edge Vapour Smoothing for SLS 3D Printed Parts

Prototype Projects, a leading name in the additive manufacturing industry, has announced the addition of a revolutionary desktop vapour smoothing machine to its suite of post-processing solutions. The new machine, the PostPro SFX, is designed to enhance the surface finish of SLS 3D printed parts, offering a professional, injection moulding-like finish.

The PostPro SFX employs advanced vapour smoothing technology to refine the surface of printed parts. This process, which involves exposing the parts to solvent vapours, significantly reduces surface roughness and enhances both mechanical properties and aesthetic appeal. The compact, desktop-sized unit features an 11-litre chamber and uses an eco-friendly solvent, making it suitable for various environments without compromising on performance. Our unit will most suit parts with a maximum size of 100 x 110 x 230mm, but we will assess the suitability of parts over that size on a case-by-case basis.

By integrating the PostPro SFX, we aim to deliver smoother, stronger, and more visually appealing parts, thereby expanding the potential applications of SLS 3D printing in industries ranging from consumer goods to medical devices.

The Vapour Smoothing process has been added to our optional finishing options. Customers have the choice of smoothing or smoothing and dyeing. While this process is a positive addition to our offering, it is important to note that it may not be a suitable finishing option for SLS parts with particularly thin walls.
