Prototype Projects launches its new CNC Express service
We are proud to launch our new CNC Express service level which enables customers, whose parts fulfil Express criteria, to benefit from CNC parts being dispatched in just 3 working days of order.
A summary of the Express criteria is outlined here:
- Size: parts must fit within the stock size
- Depth of cut: parts must meet the cutter diameter and depth of cut requirements
- Materials: four materials are available for CNC Express
- Surface finish: machined parts are left as-milled
- Threaded holes: M2 – M12, standard threads only
- Radii: sharp inside corners will be rounded (radiused)
- Text: there are some considerations if your part incorporates text

Other CNC service levels
For parts which are less urgent and/or do not meet our Express criterion, customers can also now choose from three different service levels, in addition to CNC Express.
A full CNC team
To enable us to deliver our new CNC service levels, which are comparable to our 3D printing service levels, we recruited five new members to the team which is led by Ian Reinemann.
The nine-person strong team run two shift patterns which enable us to offer these much-needed service levels. This means our customers can meet tight timescales or economy budgets.
Justin Pringle, MD of Prototype Projects
When talking about the new CNC Express service, Justin Pringle said:
“It may seem strange for me to say that COVID-19 has brought a silver lining to our CNC service, but it has.
“At the beginning of 2020 we were preparing to launch our new CNC Express service. But we struggled to recruit CNC operators meaning we couldn’t run the 2nd shift needed to deliver the Express service our clients have been asking for.
“As we went into lockdown, we knew we had to be cautious but we also knew we couldn’t go backwards and must look to the future and, as our customers were operating business as (un)usual so we continued in the same vein and continued with our plans.
“As restrictions lifted, we restarted our search for CNC operators. Unlike our recruitment attempts in January, we received many applications from skilled CNC operators who had been made redundant from companies adversely affected by COVID-19. We’ve now recruited five new members to the CNC team.”
