Vacuum Casting of COVID-19 Testing Equipment
In our last updates, we have celebrated our CNC and Sales teams who have risen to the Ventilator Challenge in the face of adversity and by sourcing essential materials from new suppliers. In this article, we look at our Rapid Prototyping Unit 1 team and their work on COVID-19 testing equipment.
Business as (un)usual
On 18 March 2020, we announced in our COVID-19 business update that, in order to protect our staff, the teams have been split across our two units. Our Unit 1 team is comprised of members of our office team, our CNC team and half of our Rapid Prototyping workshop team.
The Unit 1 RP team members (Tim Rowell, Jordan Cooney, Martyn Clarke, Roger Barnes and Gemma Zouher-Lewis) have been focused on our business-as-usual work which includes the painting and finishing of SLA parts. As with our other teams, the Unit 1 RP team are working safely by maintaining social distancing requirements.
While some of the Unit’s work has been on the Ventilator Challenge projects, the majority of Unit 1’s COVID-19 work has been focused on a different project.
COVID-19 testing equipment
As work on the Ventilator Challenge is suspended, at the request of the Cabinet Office, work continues on the development of COVID-19 testing equipment.
This vital equipment, which is in great demand, is aimed at ensuring our frontline NHS and Healthcare staff can be tested for COVID-19. Testing of these keyworkers will help protect them and minimise the risk of transference if they test positive for the virus.
Our RP Technician, Mark Avory, has been vacuum casting this testing equipment projects for a number of our customers. Mark is supported by the rest of the Unit 1 team and they are working hard to ensure fast turnaround times.
Cutting edge transformations
If you follow our LinkedIn page, you may recognise Jordan Cooney’s name. Jordan and Adam Sharkey (in our Sales team) recently underwent mini transformations as they both administered their own haircuts. We think they did a pretty good job, although their skills here at Prototype Projects are far more superior!
Service with a smile
Our local customers may have been fortunate enough to see Martyn making deliveries again. Having been grounded a couple of weeks ago in terms of delivering local orders, he was delighted to be back on the road making deliveries – his warm smile says it all!
Our thanks to Tim, Jordan, Martyn, Roger, Gemma and Mark for their positivity and continued hard work during these difficult times.
