Additive & Reductive Manufacturing under one roof
Prototype Projects is recognised widely for our 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing capabilities. We operate a SLA, Selective Laser Sintering and FDM machines capable of producing everything from rapid prototyping parts to full production parts.
At the same time we also run five CNC machines, offering a fundamentally different approach to part production – but equally applicable for both prototypes and production parts.
CNC Benefits
The key benefits of CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machining – the “reductive manufacturing” process are:
- The large range of metal and plastic materials that can be used
- Virtually flawless surface resulting from a single block of material resulting in a high quality ‘production standard’ part finish
- Ability to produce high numbers of identical parts and components
- Parts can be drilled, lathed or cut to achieve mechanical properties
The “reductive” aspect of the process refers to the production of the part via physical removal of material using computer controlled milling, turning or grinding.
Computer Controlled Machines
CNC Machining involves the use of sophisticated computer controlled machines to produce highly accurate parts where minute levels of accuracy and precision are required.
Because the milling and turning motions are computer controlled, the CNC process is not only a precision process; it can be repeated hundreds or thousands of times over extended periods from the same CAD file.
Replicated across multiple machines (as offered by Prototype Projects), that means production quality manufactured parts in volume – but without the cost of complex and expensive tooling normally associated with the production manufacturing process.
Prototype Projects has a suite of CNC machines and a team of skilled CNC engineers.
