5 key differentiators of the best prototype model making bureaus
A lot of simple prototype parts can be manufactured on a single machine using a single process. If it’s an early concept part, that process may involve 3D printing using Stereolithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM).
But when the prototype model required is more complex or larger, a more advanced model making approach may be needed.
The key factors marking out the best prototype model makers from the rest are as follows:
Multiple in-house technologies and processes
Single process specialists in one technology such as SLA or CNC are to be respected and have their role to play in the mix of prototype service provision. On the other hand model making can require the use of more than one process technology – and more than often three, four or more separate technologies. Being able to offer all these in-house under one roof is a big asset for a model maker.
Scale and size
One machine just doesn’t cut it in model making. A model making specialist with multiple machines for different technologies and capabilities on site will turn things around more quickly for you than one with just one or machines that are queuing the requirements of different clients.
Value add
The best model making bureaus will add value to your design requirement. Not just with the odd question about how you want to do something but with genuine, valuable advice that gives you a different angle or perspective on solving a particular problem or achieving a specific goal.
Flexibility and versatility
Because model making isn’t just a matter of straight forward software and machine programming, the approach needed often requires an element of flexibility.
Things can take longer than expected, or maybe certain materials can’t perform the job as expected. In any case, the flexibility and versatile ‘can do approach’ of your model maker partner will determine whether you’ll use them once or many times.
Real know-how
Underpinning the range of in-house technologies offered, the scale and size of the model making facilities and the value-adding flexibility of the approach, the core skills and experience of the more advanced model making specialists are what set them apart.
A model making company that is fully aligned with the needs of its product designer clients will set out from the start of the project to support and assist.
Such support can only be truly useful if is based on real, good old-fashioned know-how.
Prototype Projects uses the very best technologies in-house and is ideally equipped to make complex models of all shapes and sizes.
