3D Printing precision accuracy and biocompatibility possible with the ProJet® 6000 HD SLA machine

Prototype Projects is constantly looking for ways to improve on and broaden its range of prototyping services in order to meet the ever more stringent quality requirements demanded by our customers.

Following heavy investment in our CNC facilities and Selective Laser Sintering infrastructure in 2012 and 2013, 2014 sees the introduction of a new high precision SLA capability in the shape of a new ProJet® 6000 HD SLA 3D Printing machine from 3DSystems.

About the ProJet® 6000 HD 3D Printing machine

The ProJet® series of 3D Printers delivers SLA parts with even better precision, accuracy and quality.

The key difference that the ProJet® 6000 brings to customers of Prototype Projects is that while most SLA parts produced on our existing 3D Systems SLA machines can be finished with a range of quality levels, the ProJet® 6000 HD offers even higher levels of quality and precision.

This makes it a very attractive choice for engineering and product design professionals with the most stringent and exacting of requirements:

• Definition: resolution ranges from HD – 0.125mm, 0.125mm layers to XHD – 0.075mm, 0.050mm layers
• Accuracy: accuracy levels of 0.025mm – 0.05mm are possible depending on the exact parameters, geometry and size of the part.

Materials

A range of materials is available for the ProJet® 6000. Initially Prototype Projects is offering VisiJet® SL Clear material which is ideal for:

• Achieving a polycarbonate-like look and feel
• Crystal clear appearance for transparent parts such as lenses – requires post process to achieve clear visual properties.
• Stiff, durable properties
• Use in biopharmaceutical applications (VisiJet® SL Clear is USP Class VI certified*)

USP Class VI certified

On this last point it is worth noting that USP Class VI is the strictest certification for materials used in the biopharmaceutical sector. Products that have passed USP Class VI standards are certified as having a very low level of toxicity following stringent testing.

Materials that have achieved this level of certification are worth consideration and evaluation for use in medical devices such as pumps, tubes and process equipment where a level of biocompatibility is desired.

Turnaround

Delivery turnaround times for parts produced on the ProJet® 6000 depend on the exact nature of the design.
