What is SLS & SLA Texturing?
Texturing is where SLS and SLA parts go through a specialist graining process to texture the surface of the part in any number of designs or patterns.
Did you Know? The process offers significant cost-savings over other techniques, such as injection moulding.
How does texturing work?
Reference photographs can be used to give an example of the required texture. A high-resolution image of the texture is then imported to our software, before the part is printed, where the texture is applied to the surface of the STEP file. The surface is then realised during the printing process.
What textures are possible?
The possibilities are limitless, assuming a photograph can be found of the required texture. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
Is texturing more cost-effective that injection moulding?
Yes, it is. The process offers significant cost-saving over other techniques, such as injection moulding. This makes the process even more appealing for additive manufacturing purposes.
Is texturing a lengthy process for design engineers/product designers?
No! It is a less time-consuming process for the design engineer/product designer who would, otherwise, need to design a surface in CAD which can be painstaking.
Is it possible to texture existing SLS and SLA parts?
No. Because the texture is applied to the surface of the part during the printing phase, it is not possible to add a texture later.
What dispatch options are available for textured parts?
We offer two dispatch levels for SLS & SLA textured parts:
- Economy: within 5 working days
- Super-Economy: within 10 working days
For SLS & SLA parts which do not require texturing, we offer two additional dispatch levels, including next working day dispatch. Visit our Ordering page to find out more.
What does texturing look like in practice?
Read our Milk & More case study to see how texturing has been used by one of our clients.
We always welcome visitors to take the tour of our 3D Printing Suite in Royston. Please contact us to arrange your tour – texturing is just one of the many services that you will see.
