Turn your CAD file into a 3D-printed part
The world of professional 3D printing can be a confusing one to navigate, so we’ve pulled together a simple road map to help you turn a CAD file into a 3D printed part with Prototype Projects.
Step 1: Prepare your CAD file
We prefer STEP files, but can work with STL – just keep an eye on the file size if it’s an STL.
Step 2: Select the 3D printing process
If you’re not sure which is the best process for your part, please contact us.
Step 3: Choose your material
Step 4: Select the finish level
Do you need Basic, Standard or Detailed?
Go to our finishing page to determine the best finish for your part.
Step 5: Select a dispatch level
We offer four dispatch levels:
- Express | next day dispatch (if quoted before 4.00pm, and ordered before 5.00pm) (this option is not suitable for parts which require a Standard or Detailed finish level)
- Standard | in 3 working days
- Economy | in 5 working days
- Super-Economy | in 10 working days
Visit our ordering page to find out more.
Step 6: Request your quote
Once you have completed Steps 1-5, you are ready to request your quote. Visit our Request a Quote page and complete the online form.
Quote requests received between 8.00am – 4.00pm are responded to the same day (depending on the complexity of requirement). Quote requests received after 4.00pm will be responded to on the following business day.
